Birmingham is ready for a new era—one led by experience, compassion, and action. Insert Tara Nix, a lifelong resident of Birmingham and your candidate for City Council in District One. For over 20 years, I’ve served as a city constable, standing up for the safety and rights of our citizens. I’ve also operated a group home that supports individuals in need of care, stability, and a second chance. My campaign isn’t about politics—it’s about people. Together, we can build a city council that works for all of us. This is more than an election—it’s a movement toward progress.

Tara’s Vision

Birmingham, Alabama stands at a pivotal moment—a city rich in civil rights history and community strength, yet still facing deep challenges in governance, equity, and accountability. To usher in a new era, residents must organize, reimagine leadership, and demand bold, inclusive action. The following strategies outline a path forward for transforming Birmingham into a more just, transparent, and empowered city. They emphasize grassroots leadership, political accountability, economic justice, and civic participation—while challenging current officials when they fail to meet the needs of the people. This is not just a call for reform; it’s a blueprint for renewal.

1. Community-Led Visioning & Policy Design

  • Host citywide forums and neighborhood assemblies to gather input from residents across all districts.

  • Create a community policy council to develop initiatives based on lived experiences—particularly from historically underserved areas.

2. Accountability & Transparency from Elected Officials

  • Track and publicly share each official’s voting record, public statements, and fulfillment of campaign promises.

  • Organize candidate forums and debates, ensuring hard questions are asked, especially in areas where promises have been broken.

3. Youth Empowerment & Education Reform

  • Ensure youth representation on city boards and commissions.

  • Support student-led organizing and invest in public schools, mental health services, and after-school programs.

  • Challenge officials when they underfund schools or ignore educational equity.

4. Independent Media & Public Communication

  • Support or create independent news platforms to investigate and expose corruption, neglect, or incompetence.

  • Launch community newsletters, podcasts, and social media campaigns that counter misinformation and promote civic literacy.

5. Legal and Policy Advocacy

  • Collaborate with legal groups to challenge unjust ordinances or government inaction in court.

  • File Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and pursue litigation when transparency is denied.
